GRAWR Magazine
GRAWR is an alternative magazine focused on feminist and LGBTQIA+ content, blending a bold editorial voice with expressive visual storytelling. Created as an ode to early ’90s Riot Grrrl and punk zines, it channels a raw, DIY aesthetic reimagined in a contemporary format. Analog techniques such as collage, hand-assembled layouts, and scanning/photocopying were used to introduce tactile imperfections, layered texture, and the visual noise associated with self-published zines. The 68-page issue features art, articles, and stories from a diverse range of international contributors.
As creator, editor-in-chief, and art director, the project encompassed concept development, visual direction, editorial planning, and full layout design. Produced as a final project for a BA in Graphic Design at Teesside University, the magazine received first-class honours for its strong art direction, distinctive concept, and cohesive editorial execution.
